The GT is 100% original. It isn't based upon any other manufacturers chassis or design, it is a truly unique British Lightning GT from bumper to bumper. Electric cars have a reputation for being designed by people who believe that they should look different from conventional engined cars. The Lightning has been created to make the owners simply feel special with gracious yet strong lines from every angle, even the rear where many designs can lose the car's personality.
The car is very British, we will hand build it with over 90% of the components being created and sourced here. The power train is from Sheffield and the lightweight carbon fiber bodywork and honeycomb aluminum chassis from the Midlands, the heart of British car building.
The Lightning GT is a technological tour de force, with leading edge components and advanced engineering employed throughout. The driving experience is equally impressive, fabulous handling with exhilarating performance and very high levels of driver feedback, every journey will be adventure in a Lightning GT! The internal soundtrack is up to you, the sonorous whir of the ultra smooth motors or the very high quality in-car entertainments system. For 2014/15 we are producing just 50 cars, hand built in Coventry, each one bespoke to owners requirements. When exclusivity is as important to you as zero or low emission motoring then the Lightning GT is worthy of consideration.
TECHNOLOGY
Lightning has developed an automotive application of the nano-structured lithium-titanate battery system, already well proven in arduous US military applications - to provide the ultimate in clean energy storage: stable, safe operation at extreme ambient temperatures; ultra fast recharging yet an exceptionally long cycle life; power capacity that not only supports Super Car performance but can absorb full regenerative braking energy. Body is carbon fiber or aluminium, chassis is constructed with lightweight aluminum honeycomb structures, suspension is alloy wishbones and coil over dampers and steering is by electronic speed sensitive rack and pinion system.
DESIGN
The chassis is manufactured using the latest composite materials, the cars lightweight structure incorporates an impressive strength to weight ratio which optimizes it’s overall efficiency and handling. The end result is a car that reaches 0-60 in less than 5 seconds, has a range of 180 miles and weighs just 1600 kg max.
The Lightning GT challenges the performance of petrol cars at all levels with no compromise on beautiful looks or driving pleasure. The Lightning GT combines elegant and timeless British sports car design with a super strong aluminium composite structure competition bred chassis technology and a futuristic all electric Super Car drive train. The coupe’s striking head turning lines and on the road presence have to be experienced to be believed.
