The definition of an American Super Car is a misnomer solely because unlike their European counterparts they do not manufacture a proper Super Car. Even the Chevrolet Corvette and Dodge Viper are no match for the craftsmanship and snobbery of the exotics from the continent. The 1964 Ford GT40 made the cut but Ford did not take the program ahead and it remained for several decades a one-off car. Among the Europeans the Italians are masters in this trade closely followed by the Brits, there are also new notable entrants trampling along feverishly for example the Swedes (Koenigsegg) and the Dutch (Spyker) and many other smaller players. Though the American marquees have managed to catch up with the Europeans to a certain extent, it is however newcomers like SSC N.A. and Hennessey who have started competing very strongly internationally.
The new kid on the block in the American Super Car firmament is the Falcon F7 of Falcon Motorsports based out of Michigan. The F7 is a thorough bred American machine. The front end looks thoroughly modern with a snappy face, the side profile and back give one the impression of ancient Italia designs, but one notable departure is the position of the exhaust pipes which are mounted between the hind lights at the back console, pretty neat. The power-to-weight ratio of this car is brilliant as the F7 uses lightweight and extremely rigid aluminium, carbon fiber monocoque and Kevlar panel materials in its construction, which includes all outer fuselage panels, as well as inner and structural panels for maximum weight savings, quality and durability. As a result, the car weighs an incredible 2,850 Lbs (1,293 kg) while its nearest competitor the Super King Ferrari California 30 weighs at about 3,825 (1,735) kg, a scale difference of more than 1000 lbs (442 kg). The Falcon F7 uses the Chevrolet LS7 engine, arguably the greatest American engine ever, pumping out 620 hp, featuring Lingenfelter high performance components and carbon fiber dual plenum intake systems that includes a dry sump oil system as well and it is aided by a heavy duty, high performance Ricardo 6 speed trans-axle with dual disc clutch system. The suspension is via Penske High performance coil over push rod units. Stopping power duties are from Brembo Carbon/Ceramic disc brakes, 6 piston 15.5” rotor front and 4 piston 15” rotor rear.
The only misstep in this commendable automobile is the purpose built interior which looks rather tacky and harks on excessively forced styling, though it features billet aluminium components. The aluminium gauge surrounds, electronic pads and rocker switches look as if they have been scavenged from a dump yard.
