Way back in 1994, the renowned Jeremy Clarkson of Top Gear, had quipped in a TV show "Historically Super Cars are a euro thing, the Americans with their predilection for cars that are still rocking back and forth 20 minutes after you have stopped, have never even attempted one. But times they are changing and the capital city of Aubum like a huge lazy lion is waking up and showing that it has teeth, big spiky ones." Then he proceeded to embark on a truly exhilarating review of the Dodge Viper RT/10, one of the most iconic cars to come out of Detroit.
The Dodge Viper (formerly the Street Racing & Technology - Viper between 2012 and 2014) is a sports car, manufactured by the Dodge division of Chrysler Group LLC. Production of the two-seat sports car began at New Mack Assembly in 1991 and moved to its current home at Conner Avenue Assembly in October 1995.
This machine was born with athletic advantages that have only evolved. The unmistakable silhouette of the iconic Super Car is still there — the low stance, classical long hood and cab-rearward proportions immediately read “Viper.” The hood resurrects the popular clam shell design, but updates it with Carbon Fiber construction for significant weight savings. The cold-air intake has been purposefully enlarged and incorporated into the hoods of both Viper models, resulting in more consistent power output. B-pillar rear brake ducts and cast aluminum sill-mounted exhaust bezels serve a dual role, improving both performance and exterior design. The rear diffuser is born of wind tunnel stats, for optimum rear down force and drag. Innovative Superform aluminum doors continue the hard work of delivering lightweight targets and aggressive looks. Four-piston Brembo® brakes with fixed-aluminum calipers sit ready up front and in the rear. The available slotted two-piece lightweight rotors feature curved vanes and aluminum top hats for improved cooling and heat dissipation are paired with the lightweight aluminum wheels, further reducing overall curb weight of the vehicle. Clearly, this is an elite competitor.
